Wayne Thiebaud Oil Pastel Statement

My goal for this piece was to create an image showing interesting pops of vibrant colors made from the lipstick and the billiard ball. I accomplished this by really focusing when I was putting together the image I was going to draw from. I was surprised with how much I'm improving with oil pastels. This assignment seemed a lot easier than the others because I'm getting used to the technique of oil pastels. My drawing is mainly about energy conveyed through color. The most difficult challenge I think was just getting started and figuring out what to draw first. I had to see the piece not as an image of lipstick and a billiard ball but a composition of color, light and shadow. Another artist in the class that I learned from was Angela Borean. I loved her use of colors, highlights and shadows and how neat and clean her entire piece came together. My drawing really works in my use of color. If i had a do over I would probably change the picture I took to begin with. I loved the one I chose but if I had the chance I might choose another composition entirely. The best thing about my work is my use of color.

Wayne Thiebaud #2 Statement

I did my studio project on the artist Wayne Thiebaud. The thing I loved most about him was his use of colors to enhance his art. He will subtly line the image with a pop of orange or blue to give the picture vibrance and energy. I especially love his aesthetic and the things he finds interesting to paint. He is a good mentor for me to follow throughout the year.
